Goodyear & Asbestos History- Not Just Tires

Goodyear & Asbestos History- Not Just Tires
Most people associate the name “Goodyear” with Tires and rightfully so. What might not be so widely known is Goodyear’s involvement in the manufacture of asbestos containing sheet packing material, steam hoses, mastics, conveyor belts, aircraft brakes, gaskets and floor tile.
Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co., Inc. products that contained asbestos include:
  • HD Asbestos Steam Hose, made with braided asbestos cord
  • HD Safety Welding Hose, made with braided sheath asbestos cord
  • Goodyearite Sheet Packing, made of asbestos cloth
  • Asbestos Cord Steam pressing iron
  • Wingfoot Asbestos, used for cutting into gaskets, washers and packing strips
From the early part of the twentieth century through the early 1980’s, these products played a significant role in exposing those who worked with them to asbestos.  Anyone working around these products had and have an increased risk of developing asbestos related lung diseases such as mesothelioma and asbestosis.
Many individuals and/or their family members are simply unaware of these products and the role they played in their own or their loved ones workplace exposure. Wives were put at risk because often their husbands would come home from work with clothes covered in asbestos dust.  They would shake the clothes prior to washing, and breathe in the carcinogenic dust in the process.  Despite being second hand asbestos exposure, many family members were diagnosed with or died from mesothelioma as a result.
Through years of experience and diligent investigation, the expert asbestos attorneys of Clapper, Patti, Schweizer & Mason will leave no stone unturned when it comes to discovering where an individual afflicted with an asbestos related disease was exposed and by what product he or she was exposed to.
